Andy presented a talk on “Fungal Curation, DNA Banks, and Barcoding” at the NSF DNA-Banking Workshop held in St. Louis, Missouri January 3-4, 2013.

Vince Hustad won a University of Illinois Graduate College Dissertation Travel Grant for $5000 to collect specimens in New Zealand – Congratulations Vince!

Steve Zelski won runner-up for best post-prelim poster at the annual Plant Biology Fall Welcome event on September 22, 2012 held at the Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The poster entitled “Species Richness and Distribution Patterns of Freshwater Ascomycetes Along An Altitudinal Gradient in the Peruvian Andes” was co-authored by Carol A. Shearer, Huzefa A. Raja, and Andrew N. Miller, and highlighted recent research conducted in the Amazon and the Andes.

Tiffany Bone will join the Miller Lab as the Herbarium Assistant on October 1.  She will be digitizing 100,000 specimens of lichens, bryophytes and macrofungi as part of the LBCCand MaCC TCNs through the NSF ADBC program.

Andy attended the Herbarium Digitzation Workshop hosted by iDigBio in Valdosta, Georgia on September 16-18.

Dan Radaubaugh has started in the lab as a new M.S. student working on Bat WNS.

Vince, Davi and Andy participated in the Fungi and Fungal-like Organisms course offered through OTS.  Andy co-taught this two-week course in Costa Rica along with Greg Mueller and Priscilla Chaverri.

The Miller Lab will be giving six presentations at the Mycological Society of America Meetings at Yale University, July 16-19.

Dan Radaubaugh has accepted the Bat WNS MS graduate research assistantship.  We look forward to having Dan in the lab this Fall.

Steve Zelski was invited to participate in the project “Studies of fungal biodiversity in Northern Thailand” through the University of Arkansas and will spend a month in Thailand beginning in June.

Dan Radabaugh will be visiting the UIUC campus interviewing for the Bat WNS MS graduate research assistantship.
